Procrastination is one of the challenges that we struggle with as entrepreneurs on our quest to grow our businesses. Yes, I said it. Sometimes we may even be unaware that procrastination has sneaked upon us. Have you ever sat down to begin tackling those items on your to-do-list but Facebook, Email, or the laundry suddenly sidetracks you? Also, when you finally check the clock, you’re disappointed to discover that 2 hours have passed and you haven’t started to work on any of the items on your to-do-list for that particular day as yet. Is this your challenge too? Here are 5 tips to help you say goodbye to procrastination and get more done:
Tip #1 – Know Your Expected Outcome
It is essential for you to know why you are doing a particular task. Knowing how completing these tasks will bring you closer to achieving your goals is vital. Having a clear objective will enable you better prioritize your to-do-list and get more done.
Tip #2 – Create a To-Do-List
Before you end each workday, create a list of the projects you need to work on the next day. This not only allows you to know what to start with but it subconsciously prepares you for the next morning. You can use the old-fashioned pad and pen or get creative with a project management system. You could even go a step further and highlight the top 3 “must do’s” so that you are ready to get them done when you start your day.
Tip #3 – Complete the Income Generating Tasks First
You may find that you are more alert when you start your workday. Therefore, it is important for you to start by working on your most important projects and tasks that will bring more revenue into your business. It may even be necessary for you to establish set work hours throughout your day. Know when you will work in your business. This helps you to establish clear boundaries for yourself, your clients as well as your family members and friends.
Tip #4 – Establish Deadlines
As entrepreneurs your to-do-list is always overflowing. However, setting realistic deadlines and sticking to them will help you to keep your projects on track. This will enable you to feel less overwhelmed and more organized. You will also have a clearer understanding of what comes next and will be better able to hold yourself accountable.
Tip #5 – Celebrate Your Accomplishments
It may help you to keep working on a project when you have established rewards for yourself. This will actually motivate you and keep you on track. You can celebrate with a walk around the block, a smoothie or even a cup of tea. The key is to find ways to motivate yourself to achieve your goals.
